The brown field site in the centre of town has had various plans for it’s development over the years, none of which have been realised. The planning history of the site is a prime demonstration of many of the pitfalls that exist in the current Housing Delivery Process having had difficulties in achieving planning permission and financial blockages following the 2008 crash.

 

This has resulted in a paralysis, vacancy and dereliction. The finance is not available to develop the site in the ‘building as usual’ way so this prime, historic, town centre site continues to deteriorate.
